“You know in the medieval period in the city-states of central and northern Italy they were two factions: one supporting the Pope, and the other supporting the Holy Roman Emperor. Which side would you have been on?”
“And which one was which?”
“What do you mean?”
“Which group was supporting the Pope, and which one was supporting the Holy Roman Emperor?”
“I’m not sure.”
