The Beethoven Delusion

An intense, steely eyed, morose figure sits crouched over a desk harshly lit by an angular lamp. Cigarette smoke invaded all corners of the room, despite the pinned presence on a wall of a large sheet of paper on which was written "SMOKING IS IRRATIONAL."

The man - or at least so it appeared to be - suddenly leapt from his intentionally uncomfortable seat (an aid to clear thinking) and triumphantly raised a large sheet in the smoky air. After devouring what was written with his hungry, mad, intellectual eyes, he placed the page back on the desk, clenched his fist again and strode downstairs.

Seeing as he's gone, we'll take a closer look at this mysterious sheet. Atop the page was the heading: The Beethoven Delusion, and below it was written the following.

It is my argument that a pious fraud has been perpetrated so as to subject mankind to the most humiliating of intellectual enslavements. I will restrict myself to examining an aural or musical phenomenon known as The Pastoral Symphony, or alternatively Beethoven's Sixth Symphony. The work is the same despite the confusion of the two titles, and both are declared to be the work of a supposedly extraordinary genius by the name of Beethoven; someone supposedly far beyond the reach of mere mortals like you and me. Can you feel the insult in this claim? Is it not demeaning?! I hate the very idea of the man.

So out of this hatred I have made it my task to rescue humanity from this insult, and I am proud to announce I have succeeded magnificently. In short, what I have discovered is that this alleged work with its wild claims of a composer and his musical creation of wild genius ultimately amounts to nothing but the vibration of air moleclues at varying degrees of intensity. There is no need to bring a composer - call him Beethoven, call him anything you like - into the equation; air molecules are sufficient. The air molecules vibrate, noise is created, we hear the noise with our accidental ears . . . And that’s it, end of mystery. Who needs some Beethoven thrown into the mix?!

I have so far restricted my scientific investigations to the Pastoral work, but I am confident that were other alleged works of greatness subjected to the same empirical rigour, then similar conclusions would be reached. And if anyone assaults you with their pretensions, just direct them to the air molecules, and walk off. You may even permit yourself a smirk as you do so.

That’s Not the Real You

I’m only just watching this now, but am posting it as all this man’s sermons are very worth watching so I’m sure this should be as deserving as any. Under that YouTube channel’s playlist, his sermons, naturally enough, are together under the Sermons category.

Corporate Impact

“You know that piece you wrote earlier about Corporate Whores?”
“Yeah, what about it?”
“I thought it was very beautiful.”
“Thank you very much.”

Corporate

Interesting news from the music industrial complex and indeed the entertainment industrial complex as a whole, where it seems Toxic Blandness’ recent song Corporate Whores Forever has set all kinds of things in motion, leading to intriguing and exciting developments. What we can gather is there seems to be some kind of collaboration across various entertainment and Big Tech borders, with particular apparent input from the Facebook Megaverse phenomenon - bear with us if this is all as yet a bit vague - and anyway, with lots of stress on the consumer receiving a “multi-sensual interactive experience”, teams of gifted and dedicated minds are putting in long hours on a series of offshoots sprouting out from Toxic Blandness’ initial and humble germ, i.e, the song Corporate Whores Forever. A list of some titles from this as yet mysterious series - whatever it precisely all may mean - have been leaked for our perusal below:

Corporate Whores Form a United Front

Corporate Whores Go to the Bahamas

Corporate Whores Clog Up the Charts

Corporate Whores in Bondage

Corporate Whores Give Up Their Minds and Bodies for the Revolution

Corporate Whores Laugh a lot on Talkshows

Corporate Whores Express Outrage

Corporate Whores Sweat It Up at the Gym and then Go Visit the Plastic Surgeon

Corporate Whores Form Split Personalities

Corporate Whores Show Us Their Bedrooms.

Looks like they saved the best for last there!

Art 1

Another picture I’m in danger of finishing. Funnily looking at something in progress on the screen can help give a bit of distance in terms of perspective and seeing obvious things to alter that otherwise have become “normalised” by familiarity, or being too close to the work.

Just got a new camera, and after torturously trying to figure out how to transfer photos from it to this device, here finally is a result of my efforts.

Grannys

Hip new group Toxic Blandness wowed an appreciative crowd at the Grannys a few short days ago with their newest song, Corporate Whores Forever. It was however a night of mixed feelings for the band, as they unexpectedly were beaten to the award for “Best Music Video Involving Anal Sex With a Eunuch” by the girl-group, Depopulation Agenda. “A lot of people thought Depopulation Agenda were yesterday’s girls,  but they’re coming back strong,” opined their manager, Bill “Vaccines” Gates. There was a nostalgic element to their song and video, Just an Old-Fashioned Girl, that may have touched the hearts and minds of the judges, and swung things their way on the night.

To add, one doesn’t like to gossip, but there were even whispers that Toxic Blandness may have actually been beaten down into third place by The Fact Checkers’ song, Ooh Baby, You and Me Got the Truth Coming Out Our Pores. The idea was put forward by some that the video for Toxic Blandness’ Corporate Whores Forever, while on the face of things ticking all the right boxes, was perhaps in truth a little dated in terms of cinematography, and was also maybe lacking a little sharpness in editing.

There was for instance one moment in the video where a single shot lasted all of 2 seconds before cutting to a new shot. That’s an awful lot to ask of an audience in terms of attention and not falling prey to a sense of restlessness and unease. There are some who consider shots of those kinds of durations and longer so potentially harmful to the well-being of the viewer and the equilibrium of society that such practices should fall broadly within the parameters of hate speech, and be fully treated as such.

When You Decide to Change

Though the translation, from I believe Serbian, struggles at times, still I think this goes very deep.
