Cynical

Mr. Propter laughed. “It’s good to be cynical. That is, if you know when to stop. Most of the things we’re all taught to respect and reverence - they don’t deserve anything but cynicism. Unless you’re steadily and unflaggingly cynical about the solemn twaddle that’s talked by bankers and politicians and professors and all the rest of them, you’re utterly lost.”
