Elton John- The Art of

The work of this artist lifts the veil from the falsehood of the bourgeois projection of self; a self that masquerades as at ease with itself and life, fulfilled by the nobility of work and the refinements of culture. Elton's art destroys this illusion with shocking violence and emotional detachment. He screams for a return to the primitive or savage, though, and with a display of almost inhuman honesty, he defiantly refuses to offer the olive branch that this savage is at heart noble.

You're not too far off the subversive logic of Father Jerome in your previous post here Andrew (which I did not reply to because just when I thought I had understood it I lost it again). Anyway scary fact: Mr Elton Hercules (no really: Hercules) John has sold more then 250 million albums. This means he's nearly as good as the Beatles. Better than Bowie probably.

I was wondering if there was some joke I was failing to get with the Hercules but I see after checking that you're in earnest. Yiou have to wonder what thoughts inhabit a man who chooses such a combination of names....anyway, I better avoid any analysis in this direction.
As for his 250 million record sales, remember there's only one Elton, though admittedly with Bernie Taupin(?) as lyricist....for the sake of argument, lets make that two Eltons, whereas there were four Beatles which makes his greatness all the greater.

Good point Andrew. Hadn't heard of Bernie Taupin but I see you've done your research -- do remember also there was a veritable troop of fifth Beatles and Paul was replaced by a more talented lookalike at some stage too so the fab four had lots more help than poor Hercules did, who was, by comparison, but a poor candle in the wind all alone
