There was an island, wonderful, a paradise, you’d go there by boat if that’s where you were going, and in spite of everything, the modern world, it remained wonderful, a visit there would restore the soul.
An ambitious and democratic idea was formulated and decided on to make it so much easier to get to this island from the mainland, and despite the considerable distance between them a bridge was built to connect the two. An amazing achievement. Unfortunately though, now that the island was in effect no longer an island, it soon and ever more so gained the spirit of the mainland and lost the spirit of itself.
