Governmental

“What’s your favourite form of governmental rule?”
“Totalitarianism.”
“Really!?”
“Yeah, but don’t get me wrong: only when there’s a really good reason for it, like say if there’s a very serious foreign military invasion immediately threatening, or maybe there’s a kind of a flu going around that we don’t have a reliable test for.”
“You’re not any bit sceptical about handing over civil liberties to the kind of deranged mediocrities who tend to create and run totalitarian regimes”
“Oh no! If there’s one thing history has thought us is those deranged mediocrities you mention who tend to slither around at the centre and peripheries of totalitarian regimes almost never abuse those totalitarian powers they felt they had to give themselves.
And those regimes actually taken a weight of responsibility off the shoulders of the people, who now don’t have to worry themselves about what to do with all the unnecessary freedoms they used to have - like going outside or whatever. The people might be just told for example, “Stay inside as much as possible. Only come outside if you have a very strong and necessary reason, and only then with a mask on your face. Don’t talk to anyone.” And so life is much, much simpler and less chaotic then.”
