Where the mind conceives of something and then bows down to its own conception.

History of human belief and society there. Of course 'god' exists but has no real interest in being known directly, no more than a writer would want a hagiography of his life and institutes in his name.
Big 'g' God is a human invention, and very much made in man's image.
If God was made in man's image, nobody would believe in him.
What music are you working on, Andrew? You mentioned it in a previous post. Gee, that guy really had a go at you. Mind you, you didn't take it lying down. Insults are fun, aren't they?
My music started off much on the electronic path but has morphed into something genuinely not much like anyone else I can think of. Doing things like taking a few seconds of Bach, cutting it up, adding effects, always with something of a background of the electronic rhythmic pulse. Which doesn't necessarily mean it succeeds! Apologies for the ! Laqzy bastard that I am, I must start sending stuff off. In no sense could most of this be played live.
That it can't be played live doesn't necessarily go against it.
Baroque music seems to lend itself well to that sort of thing.
Sounds interesting. Good luck with it.
I have a friend who is both an accomplished musician and composer but has been working in the post office for the past 15 years. It drives me nuts that someone so talented can't devote their lives fully to their art. Well, I suppose he could, but it would be a grim prospect in many respects and he does like some home comforts.
I think this projecting business used to be called idolatry. I think its covered in the commandment when it says not to worship an image of anything in heaven. Only worshipping of God him/herself being ok because God is formless.
Problem with idolatry is not that it involves the minds creative interaction through conceptualisation with externality (which is fine in-itself)but that it shuts down the process rigidly and non-negotiatingly with one specific image..such that this image then becomes the highly adorned insulating, inhibiting cage of the minds life.
Idolatry was/is so awful not because God is a proud narcissitic twit but because humans so readily get trapped in their own cognitive functions and projections.
Who needs Egypt or Babylon to enslave you when you can enslave yourself and we can enslave each other?
Agree very much with that, Jonathon, & I'm very much of an affinity with the line by Eckhart, I think, "Why dost thou prate(talk) of God; everything you can say is false." Notwithstanding that Eckhart seems to have said plenty about God.
I doubt too many people look back at time spent at trivialities with much fondness, Neil. There's a lot more to being a real artist than the artistic capacity. There has to be some intense inner drive also.

And far from being just the sphere of religion (including atheism); right across the intellectual fields.

Hi Neil. Insults can be fun all right.
