Within the ideological framework of Progress, there is a constant obsession with forces of oppression and forces to be rescued from oppression. The past as a whole comprises this bad time to be progressed beyond, and what pushes along the desired progress is the dynamic of oppressed and their rescuers versus oppressors. Some kind of cancel culture cancels the forces resistant to Progress.

And anyway, in short, the idea of reparations symbolises the unholy past surrendering, acknowledging the guilt of itself, and giving obeisance to Progress and the holy future.
