Thoughts are Portals

Say you’re sitting in silence and into this silence comes a thought of, let’s say a football result, ok, I’ll check on it, it will only take a few seconds, then twenty minutes later you’re immersed in sport, one irrelevant article to another - so the thought that poked its way into the silence was a portal into whatever pathway and world. All kinds of thoughts obviously can be there instead from the seemingly semi-benign distractions to the obviously toxic. I’m sure we can also include thought on the creative, constructive side of things but anyway we see we don’t have to go to science-fiction to enter the world of portals! 

And just to point out that this is exactly the nature of thought as temptation in the negative sense.
