Reasoning powers came about from neurological connections which allowed reasoning powers to contemplate their design.
The ancient Greeks asked: "Can an organized hierarchy exist in the absence of intelligence?" No one has answered this question, yet. All answers (either way) involve metaphysics and religious belief.

The medieval nominalist would say, "No, radio-galaxies are an invention of the human mind, in response to visual and audio stimulation to the human mind. The cause of the visual and audio stimulation to the human mind is too abstract for the human mind to understand. Therefore, the radio-galaxy is a fantasy of the human mind."
I think the best thing to do is pretend consciousness doesn't exist, we're meely lumps of matter with a bit of reason tacked on, & this is all to be expected.

Not sure how my expectations from life are inferred from this, or particularly how they may be low expectations.
