Distance yourself from the world, and only then will you recognise its foulness. For if you do not withdraw, you will not learn how, but instead you will embrace its stench as if it were a pleasant fragrance and will consider the nakedness of your own shame as a cloak of glory.
Discernment and judgment cannot operate or serve one who is nourished amidst vanities. How could a mind clouded by the world’s distractions discern what is right?
St Isaac the Syrian.
In this manner, immersed in the mindset of the world, its daily mental disseminations, and imagining this is some dutifully performed virtue, what happens as a consequence of all this collectively performed and sustained ‘respectability’ is that “together they have become corrupt” (Psalm 53).
Not that this is about ‘they’ rather than us!
